Beer commercials throughout time have been very hit or miss for me.  I’m not a big beer drinker, but who wouldn’t have an appreciation for stupid humor and/or boobs…Yes, boobs.

Now on TV they’re running this ad, which I believe is for Budweiser.  I tried to hunt down a YouTube clip, or a transcription, but was unsuccessful.  Perhaps you’ve seen it.  Basically, if I recall correctly, it’s a dude at a bar, describing his tastes in beer to a woman, while simultaneously describing her (hitting on her).

Anyway, he uses phrases like “classic, never trendy…an American beauty.”  This ad clearly tries to capitalize on notions of so-called “Americana.”  To me though, everything about the commercial was just stupid, and even more so just lame.

I have a lot of pride as an American, and even though Budweiser is American beer, it’s hard for me to take any of that shit seriously when the music over the commercial is “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” a song by Jet, AN AUSTRALIAN BAND.

I hope someday Fosters uses the fucking Star Spangled Banner in an ad with kangaroos hopping through the outback.
