I try to avoid putting too much stock into ideas like “liberal media” and “conspiracy.”

To me it looks like the ball HITS THE GROUND.  Yet, the media seems 100% sure it didn’t.  If this was a 3rd strike, every single batter in the league would take off for first base on a pitch like that.  That is all.
