8/23 – "What makes a good ringtone"

22 Aug

I don’t have custom ringtones for certain people, and I’ve gone through 2 phones over the last 2 or 3 years.   The only time I ever really change my tone is when I get a new phone.   Assuming that whatever song someone chooses for their tone is a song they like, what makes it a good tone or not is something else.

What matters is when the tone cuts out.  We don’t always pick up our phone when it rings, and sometimes we just wanna hear the tone in it’s entirety.

Take my current ringtone for example, “Rock Me Baby,” the Ike and Tina Turner version.

“…Rock me baby, rock me all night long.  I want you to rock me, like my back ain’t got no bones.”

And that’s when it cuts out.  That’s the key.  The song must cut out at the right moment.  If a song cuts out mid-verse or mid-chorus, that’s awful.  Even worse would be if it cuts out mid-sentence or mid-word.   I can’t have that!

I’m glad my tone cuts out on a sassy punctuation.  I’d have it no other way.

For a few years I had the Jim Carrey line from “Dumb and Dumber” which said, “Do you want to hear the most annoying sound in the world? Ewwaeewwwaasrrawwrrrr.” CLASSIC.
